Garden update

Today I...

Moved the potato bags (yeah, wrong season, experimenting)
Transplanted some snowpea seedlings
Transplanted some pak choi seedlings
Transplanted beetroot seedlings
Picked some chillis, kale and lettuces
Seasol'd the crap out of everything, sweet dreams veggies!

I love my garden

I got a new Keep Cup

number two for me, Small, all black. Now i can mix up all the colours! Keep Cup i love you so!

Today we began classes on sustainability, i felt so smug sitting at the front of the class with my cup and knowing all the eco things i do in my life. It's a shame i have to drive awhile to get to that class, woops carbon footprint!

Garden Update. Autumn

Left to right, top to bottom: Kale, borlotti beans (yeah i know its the wrong time of year!), a wonky beetroot, a brussel sprout plant surrounded by garlic, Lettuce that has bolted and are up to my waist!, corn rows, dandelion patch, rocket

Autumn! I love that the leaves are reddening and the satisfaction the crisp air gives to drinking coffee outside in the sun.

It's also a time for transition in the vegetable garden, time to rip things out, the basil plants are on their way out, the tomatoes are popping out their last bunch of fruit.

Time to start planting new things, I now have about 50 cloves of garlic planted, yeah, it's pretty much a giant experiment, which ones will flourish, where will they flourish, which types will be the winners (Australian white vs Melbourne Market). I've just planted a new set of beetroot seedlings and will keep doing so every week, Onion, celery and brocolli seedlings are taking awhile and still living on my window sill. Pak choi is growing, as are snow peas which i'm trying to cover a gate with.

I also planted a passionfruit vine out the front!

Window sill seed raising

I've had a few troubles raising certain seeds, its a combination of this being my first ever year of gardening, using a clay based soil that goes rock hard when it get a bit too dry, using potting mixes that dry out too quick, too much sun, forgetting to water and bugs eating all my seedlings.

but i figured out a way to fix it! Grow them on my windowsill! They don't get attacked by insects, I see them everyday so they don't get neglected and they're doing great!

I'm growing everything is soy milk tetra packs  as they fit perfectly into my sill whilst allowing the window to close. So far i'm growing...

Microgreens - brocolli & lettuce
Celery (hard to start from seed)
Beetroot
Onions (phew!)
Salad bowl lettuce
silverbeet.
pak choi
